Update on an investigation into allegations of financial mismanagement, tender irregularities, irregular appointments and maladministration levelled against the PRASA

Public Protector Adv Madonsela is currently investigating a complaint against Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA). This is pursuant to a complaint received she received in April 2012.

The allegations being investigated range from tender irregularities to mismanagement of funds. The Public Protector had made an undertaking to finalise the provisional report by 30 of April 2013 but could not due to the unforeseen circumstances beyond her control including among others, the delay in receiving required information, the provisional report could not be issued on the said date. For this, the Public Protector therefore apologises to the National Transport Movement (NTM) for the delay.

The Public Protector would like to assure all affected parties that the investigation is receiving the necessary urgent attention and hopes to submit a provisional report within a month.

Adv Madonsela will meet with NTM representatives tomorrow to address their concerns.
