Public Protector returns to KwaZulu-Natal for unfinished Stakeholder Roadshow business
Public Protector Adv. Busisiwe Mkhwebane and Deputy Public Protector Adv. Kholeka Gcaleka will on Wednesday meet and hold talks with Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature Hon. Ntobeko Boyce, Premier Sihle Zikalala and his Executive Council in Durban.
During a countrywide Stakeholder Roadshow stopover in Durban in February, Adv. Mkhwebane and Adv. Gcaleka could not meet Hon. Boyce and Premier Zikalala as the visit coincided with preparations for the State of the Province Address.
Accordingly, Adv. Mkhwebane and Adv. Gcaleka could only meet with the Provincial House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership, with the understanding that an engagement with the Speaker and Premier would be revisited at a later stage.
At Wednesday’s meeting, Adv. Mkhwebane and Adv. Gcaleka will present to Hon. Boyce and Premier Zikalala the state of governance in KwaZulu-Natal as told through both ongoing and finalised investigations into provincial organs of state.
Where investigation reports have been issued but the implementation of the remedial action remains outstanding and has not been challenged in court, specific details thereof will be brought to the attention of Hon. Boyce, with view to requesting the invocation of section 114 of the Constitution in terms of which the Provincial Legislature is empowered to hold the executive to account.
The meeting will take place on the sidelines of the Provincial Cabinet meeting at the Department of Public Works offices in Mayville outside Durban and will therefore be closed to the media. However, Adv. Mkhwebane and Adv. Gcaleka will be available to brief journalists on the outcome of discussions after the meeting.
The meeting will take place as follows:
Date : Wednesday, April 06, 2022
Time : 09H00
Venue : Department of Public Works, 455A Jan Smuts Highway, Mayville, Durban
