Public Protector to release investigation reports and launch the 2016 National Good Governance Week

Public Protector Adv. Thuli Madonsela will on Tuesday, 04 October 2016 release investigation reports during the launch of the annual National Good Governance Week (NGGW). The key objective of the NGGW and Conference is to strengthen synergies among integrity sector institution and other role players involved in promoting good governance while combatting maladministration and other forms of improper conduct in state affairs.

The launch will be followed by a two day high level conference under the theme “People Centred Clean Governance” The Conference will be attended by members of the Executive, Legislatures, integrity sector institutions, organs of state, government officials and civil society among others. The Conference speakers will include both local and international dignitaries.

The campaign, which is the brain child of the Public Protector and on its seventh year, aims to raise awareness regarding the need for a collective consciousness of good governance, understanding the importance of good governance in ensuring responsive service delivery, understanding the importance of good ethical leadership in ensuring good governance and integrity in state affairs among others. The conference will also put the issue of clean governance on the national debate and encourage dialogue on governance among key stakeholders.

As part of activities, the Conference will include the Public Protector’s farewell dinner. The week will be concluded with a visit to Bapo Ba Mogale Community in the North West Province on Saturday, 08 October 2016. During the visit, the Public Protector will provide a progress report on her investigation into allegations of systematic looting of the community’s collective resources, including funds held in the so called “D Account”.
