Public Protector offers condolences to family, friends and colleagues of Prof. Plaatjies
Public Protector Adv. Busisiwe Mkhwebane on Monday extended condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the late Chairperson of the Financial and Fiscal Commission (FFC) Prof. Daniel Plaatjies, who sadly passed away at the weekend.
Prof. Plaatjies was an active representative of the FFC in the Forum for Institutions Supporting Democracy (FISD), which Adv. Mkhwebane chairs.
The FISD is a structure constituted by independent institutions with a constitutional mandate to support and strengthen democracy including those established under Chapter 9 of the Constitution.
It was during the activities of the FISD that Adv. Mkhwebane and Prof. Plaatjies got to interacted. She described him as a keen participant in FISD activities, who was passionate about contributing towards a better South Africa through the pivotal role his office played in South Africa’s financial and fiscal matters.
“His sudden passing is a big loss to the FISD and the country at large,” said Adv. Mkhwebane, adding that this development comes at a time when the FISD is grief-stricken following the death of South African Human Rights Commission Deputy Chairperson, Ms. Pricilla Jana.
