Public Protector meets Parliament’s Justice committee
Public Protector Adv Thuli Madonsela will this morning meet with the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development in Parliament, Cape Town.
She will brief the committee on the draft Public Protector Rules and incidental matters at M314, Marks Building from 10:00.
The Rules, which were developed in 2010 and subsequently published for public comments, are aimed at expediting the resolution of complaints and ensuring compliance by organs of state guilty of failing the public.
The Rules seek to standardise things such as timelines, subpoenas, search and seizures, alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and contempt orders, among other things.
In terms of section 7 (11) of the Public Protector Act 23 of 1994, the Public Protector may make Rules in respect of matters that have a bearing on investigations provided that such Rules are published in the Government Gazette for public comments and tabled in the National Assembly.
