Public Protector to meet Western Cape stakeholders
In line with her vision of broadening access, Public Protector Adv. Busisiwe Mkhwebane will this week be in Western Cape to hold unmediated dialogue with various stakeholder grouping in the province.
The visit is part of the ongoing nationwide roadshow aimed at introducing her to stakeholders, outlining her vision for the next 7 years and granting audiences an opportunity to raise with her any matters of concern relating to her office and the work it does.
Since February, Adv. Mkhwebane has visited over 13 villages, townships, towns and a metropole across the country, where she was met with a host of service delivery related complaints and in some areas, allegations of nepotism and corruption. Areas visited include Mthatha, Mahikeng, Ermelo, Johannesburg, Nelspruit, Bloemfontein, Pietermaritzburg and Thohoyandou, among others.
She hopes to have had a meaningful dialogue with stakeholders, including government leaders, lawmakers, political parties, civil society and general public, when she wraps up the tour later this month.
“I have taken note of some of the concerns you have been expressing through various avenues, including social media and phone-in programmes on radio. I call on you to use these meetings as platforms to engage me directly for answers,” Adv. Mkhwebane said.
The Public Protector added that the roadshow also provided members of the public an opportunity to lodge service and conduct failure complaints for investigation. For this purpose, she will be accompanied by a team of investigators.
Adv. Mkhwebane’s first stop in the province is at the City of Cape Town on Thursday where she is scheduled to address the provincial legislature and later meet with provincial heads of departments, representatives from various municipalities within the province and civil society. She will then proceed to Fish Hoek on Friday, where she is scheduled to meet with the local community.
