Public Protector Congratulates Ontario Ombudsman
Public Protector Adv. Thuli Madonsela on Monday congratulated her Ontario (Canada) counterpart, Andre Marin, on being named one of Canada’s Top 25 Lawyers by the Canadian Lawyer magazine.
The annual Top 25 Most Influential list is compiled through votes by the public and the legal profession, with inputs from the magazine’s editors, says the publication. Voters look at the level of respect, the ability to influence public opinion, and help shape the laws of the country.
The Public Protector said the honour was a fitting tribute to Mr Marin’s sterling work, which includes investigations that have resulted in major government overhauls that turned the lives of ordinary Ontario citizens around for the better.
“As a well-known international Ombudsman, Mr Marin has an unsurpassed reputation for fair, thorough and objective systemic investigations,” she said.
In 2011 Mr Marin trained all Public Protector investigators on “Sharpening Your Teeth: Advanced Training for Administrative Watchdogs”, a three day intensive training course aimed at ensuring in-depth and speedy investigations. The course, which was conducted free of charge, enjoys the backing of the International Ombudsman Institute.
