Public Protector addresses older person’s forum AGM

Public Protector Adv Thuli Madonsela will address the Annual General Meeting of the South African Older Persons’ Forum (SAOPF) in Bloemfontein, Free State on Thursday, 02 September 2010.

The SAOPF is a section 21 company, whose role is promote the rights and dignity of older persons, consult and advise government, comment on legislation and policy, raise public awareness and interact with the Minister of Social Development, Parliament and other relevant stakeholders on behalf of members.

The Public Protector regularly receives a number of complaints from older persons. Most of the complaints relate to suspended old age grants due to duplicate identity documents, among other things.

The Public Protector will explain her role in addressing the plight of vulnerable senior citizens, who have been failed by the state. Investigators from her Office will be on site to take possible complaints.
