Public Protector to address socio-economic rights workshop in Mahikeng

Public Protector, Adv. Thuli Madonsela will on Thursday address young people at the Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa’s Building Bridges Workshop outside Mahikeng in the North West.

The two-day workshop aims to establish an engagement platform between communities and municipalities, focussing on socio-economic rights. It also seeks to link communities with constitutional institutions such as the Public Protector.

The Public Protector’s address will focus on: “The Constitutional Relationship between Local Government and Communities and the Role of Chapter 9 Institutions in Service Delivery.”

The Public Protector will make use of the opportunity to extend the services of her office to all persons and communities in line with Section 182(4) of the Constitution, which requires her to be accessible to all persons and communities.

Directions to the venue: Dihatshwane Church is on the R503. From Lichtenburg, the church will be on the left hand side, just before the newly built hospital. From Mahikeng, it will be on the right hand side, the first turn after the hospital.
