Inspection of public facilities moves to Limpopo, Mpumalanga
Public Protector Adv. Busisiwe Mkhwebane and her Deputy, Adv. Kholeka Gcaleka, will this week visit public healthcare and education facilities in rural villages surrounding Polokwane in Limpopo, and Emalahleni and Nelspruit in Mpumalanga.
This is a continuation of a series of inspections they conducted at hospitals in the Eastern Cape and Gauteng earlier in August 2020 to assess how the facilities were coping with demand for services and to get a sense of whether sufficient safety measures were being implemented to cushion both workers and the public from the devastation brought about by COVID-19.
Ahead of and in between the walkabouts, they interact with workers, union representatives, management and the public to get different perspectives of the state of play at these facilities in respect of keeping the spread of COVID-19 in check. Reports based on their observations are then prepared with a view to assisting government fix problem areas, if any.
