Deputy Public Protector to conduct an inspection in loco at Kennedy Road informal settlement in Durban

Residents of Kennedy Road informal settlement in Durban, will on Friday have an opportunity to raise service delivery issues in their area with Deputy Public Protector Adv. Kevin Malunga.

Adv. Malunga will be in the area to conduct a follow up inspection in loco as part of his office’s ongoing investigation into resolving security and service delivery concerns at the Glebelands hostel and the informal settlement respectively.

The Deputy Public Protector will be accompanied by various departments within the Ethekwini municipality whose representatives committed to fixing the problems during the Public Protector’s visit to the area in December, 2015.

Among other things, the municipality committed to ensure a supply of water, electricity and a functioning sewerage system, weekly refuse collection at the settlement and building proper retaining walls to prevent any future hazards that may endanger the residents.

The inspection will take place as follows:
