Chief Justice and the Public Protector agree on mutual cooperation

As part of her stakeholder engagement programme; the Public Protector Advocate Thuli Madonsela today met with Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng; Chief Justice of the Republic of South Africa in Johannesburg.
 
The meeting, also attended by the Acting Secretary-General in the Office of the Chief Justice Dr Khotso de Wee; the Judge in the Office of the Chief Justice, Justice Yvonne Mokgoro and members of the Public Protector’s office; including the Chief Executive Office, Mr Themba Mthethwa; was an introductory engagement.
 
The purpose of the meeting was to identify areas of mutual interest arising from the overlapping mandates of the Office of the Chief Justice and the Public Protector.
 
The Public Protector also sought to brief the Chief Justice as head of the Judiciary on the extent and type of the work that the Public Protector was undertaking and how the Judiciary could be of assistance in this regard.
 
The parties also shared information on a variety of issues pertaining to the work of both the Public Protector and the Office of the Chief Justice.
 
Speaking at the conclusion of the meeting the Public Protector and the Chief Justice agreed that it had been a fruitful engagement and committed themselves to cooperating on matters of mutual interest in the future.
