Public Protector Good Governance Week
comes to an end
Monday, 24 October 2011
Public Protector Adv Thuli Madonsela on Saturday culminated
this year’s Good Governance Week with a stop shop at Attlyn
Shopping Centre in Attridgeville, Pretoria where she
interacted with hundreds of weekend shoppers.
During the interface, the Public Protector called on the
public to protect their democracy by reporting suspected
incidents of bad governance such as corruption. She also
urged them to report poor service delivery.
“We can only succeed in our efforts to entrench a culture of
good governance within the affairs of the state if you work
closely with us by reporting conduct and service failure,”
she told shoppers during a walk about at the centre.
People expressed their appreciation to the Public Protector
for the work that her office was doing, encouraging her to
continue helping distressed members of the public whose
lives have been affected negatively by poor service
delivery.
The Week seeks to promote good governance in the conduct of
state affairs while enhancing accessibility to the Public
Protector services. Other activities that took place as part
of the Week included a two-day conference, visits to
schools, a public lecture and unannounced visits at
government service points.
