SACC pledges its support for Public
Protector and other Chapter 9 institutions

The South African Council of Churches (SACC) has commended
Public Protector Adv Thuli Madonsela for the diligent job
she and the team continue to do in giving meaning to the
South African Constitution.
This followed a meeting between the Public Protector and the
representatives of the SACC National Executive Committee,
Bishop Lunga ka Siboto, Rev Mauntji Pataki and Ms Rinel Hugo
which took place at the Public Protector House in Pretoria
on Monday.
The meeting discussed, among other issues the general work
of the Public Protector, the status of implementation of the
remedial action and that of funding for the office.
The parties also discussed the issue of ethical governance
and possibilities for collaboration in engaging a culture of
ethical governance across all levels of the public sector
governance.
The SACC further committed to have regular contacts and
dialogue with the Public Protector on restorative justice
and the role the office could play in this regard.
Speaking at the same meeting, the Public Protector
appreciated the inputs of the council and the opportunity
for collaboration, including on public awareness on the role
of Chapter 9 institutions.
The council also pledged its support the office, other
Chapter 9 institutions, promotion of ethical governance in
all aspects of the public service sector and the culture of
implementation of the Public Protector remedial action.
